Ash Wednesday happens a little earlier than usual this year, on February 18th. Redeemer's service begins at 6:30pm. It isn't uncommon for people in the Church to know of Ash Wednesday without knowing a lot about it. Ash Wednesday marks the beginning of Lent, a period of time on the Christian calendar that lasts for 46 days (40 weekdays and 6 Sundays), ending on Easter. Lent is spent practicing repentance and self-denial in order to help us meditate on the death and resurrection of Jesus, so Ash Wednesday services are often solemn and reflective.
We want to encourage everyone in our congregation to come to this service. If you've never been to an Ash Wednesday service before, it will feel different from a typical Sunday morning service, but it plays an important role in the Christian faith.
