Join the Global Missions Team (GMT) and Harrison Center for the Arts (HCA) for the 3rd Global Artist Exchange (GAE). Redeemer intentionally creates two-way connections between the church and the rest of the world. The GAE is a beautiful intersection between this bidirectional street and the connection between art and the church. We believe global art has a place in the GMT for two reasons. First, Scripture resounds with the theme that God loves beauty. He commands his people to create beautiful things (Exodus 28:2, 40), he inhabits beauty (Psalm50:2), and he desires that his people be exalted in beauty for the world to see (Psalm 48:1, 2). Creating art is part of who God is as a Creator. As bearers of his image, it is also part of who we are. Second, Scripture resounds with the theme that when God redeems, he turns ugliness into beauty. Art itself creates beauty and goodness in a society with far too little of that - it provides hope and fertile soil for the gospel to grow.
In collaboration with the HCA, we have invited artists to share with us their best practices in what it looks like to have a faithful presence in their social and cultural context. The GAE this year is featuring Shannon Hinkle’s show “Here & There” in the City Gallery.
