Worship Guide | July 20 - July 25, 2015

SummerOur household worship this week focuses on growing in clarity of the difference between a religious mindset and a mindset that has been transformed by following Jesus, by listening to and obeying His Word, and by the humility that comes from His cross. We will review Christ’s teaching from the standpoint of the division He makes between a religious mindset and a mindset transformed by His gospel. Take time to meditate on and pray through these passages.

Monday, July 20th Scripture: Matthew 5:3 Song: Nothing but the Blood vs. 1 & chorus pg. 5 Prayer: Ask your Heavenly Father to break you of all pride, especially in your religious resume and your moral accomplishments, and give you poverty of Spirit that you might trust Jesus Christ as your only hope for salvation.

Tuesday, July 21st Scripture: Matthew 5:21, 27, 31, 38 and 43 Song: Nothing but the Blood vs. 2-3 & chorus pg. 5 Prayer: Pray that you would not water down God’s holy law but see how demanding it really is. Pray that you would accept the verdict that before the Holy God and His law you are a sinner in need of Jesus, and ask Him to renew your heart in moral earnestness to follow His law not motivated to win His favor, but because by the gift of Jesus you already has His favor.

Wednesday, July 22nd Scripture: Matthew 6:1-4 Song: Nothing but the Blood vs. 4-5 & chorus pg. 5 Prayer: Pray that you would not try to show off your acts of worship before other people to be seen by them. Ask your Heavenly Father to give you a heart to give to the needy secretly.

Thursday, July 23rd Scripture: Matthew 6:5-8 Song: Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee vs. 1 pg. 13 Prayer: Ask your Heavenly Father to give you a heart that trusts Him, and that prays to Him confident that He hears you and will answer your prayers.

Friday, July 24th Scripture: Matthew 6:16 Song: Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee vs. 2 pg. 13 Prayer: Ask that you would not be a hypocrite with an outward show of piety like prayer and fasting, with no inner spiritual life. Pray that your inner spiritual life, your intimacy with God, would be so real with you that you would not need to show it off to others.

Saturday, July 25th Scripture: Matthew 7:15-27 Song: Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee vs. 3 pg. 13 Prayer: Pray that you would have discernment to see the different between religious leaders who are false prophets, and ministers of the gospel of Jesus.
