Our household worship over the next few weeks will be focused on growing in our capacity to mourn. To do this we will journey with David through the Psalms listening to his mourning and grieving, and learning from him how to mourn, grieve, and lament. The following Scripture’s are meant to guide you into godly mourning.
Monday, March 2 Scripture: Psalm 22 Song: Praise to the Lord vs. 1-2 pg. 2 Prayer: Mourn the suffering of Christ prophesied in this Psalm. Mourn that Christ had to suffer in this way because of your sin.
Tuesday, March 3 Scripture: Psalm 32 Song: Praise to the Lord vs. 3-4 pg. 2 Prayer: Mourn the reality of sin in your life and rejoice that God forgives your sin and is your hiding place.
Wednesday, March 4 Scripture: Psalm 38 Song: Psalm 136 vs. 1 & chorus pg. 5 Prayer: Let this Psalm lead you in prayer, opening up your heart to God, leading you in lament, asking God for His rescue of you.
Thursday, March 5 Scripture: Psalm 42 Song: Psalm 136 vs. 1-2 & chorus pg. 5 Prayer: As you pray this Psalm, learn to wrestle with you heart as David did, addressing your despair in this way: ‘Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Hope in God, for I shall yet praise him, my salvation and my God.
Friday, March 6 Scripture: Psalm 43 Song: Psalm 136 vs. 3 & chorus pg. 5 Prayer: Let this Psalm lead you in prayer to God crying out for his vindication, and wrestling with your own heart before him, calling yourself to praise Him who is your salvation.
Saturday, March 7 Scripture: Psalm 51 Song: Come Holy Ghost pg. 14 Prayer: Let David’s prayer of contrition lead you in asking God for mercy, in brokenness and humility before God.
