MOPS is an outreach ministry of Redeemer for mothers of children, pregnant through Kindergarten. New moms often discover that this season with young babies can be a lonely and challenging time. MOPS provides a sweet community, where young moms can build friendships, receive encouragement and advice through Mentor Moms, enjoy speakers on relevant topics as well as participate in creative activities, and just relax with some coffee and delicious brunch while children are cared for in our Moppets pre-school program. Redeemer’s MOPS group meets on the first and third Wednesdays, from 9:30-11:30am in the Underground, September through May. For more information visit mops.org or www.
MOPS has 65 moms in their group. Of those 65 Moms...
57% are regular attendees of Redeemer Presbyterian Church 18% are regular attendees of another church 25% do not attend church
In MOPS this year, they were able to share the gospel message with 48 of moms in our group. 7 families have started attending Redeemer because of the MOPS group.
MOPS has served as an extension of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in caring and shepherding young mothers in and outside our church. MOPS serves as a place for community and discipleship for the 37 mothers who regularly attend Redeemer.
MOPs has also felt convicted to care for moms outside of Redeemer, especially ones that may be lacking resources. At Christmas MOPS helped bake two hundred loaves of specialty bread that raised $1,000 for Young Lives, a ministry of Young Life to teen moms.
One thing that I love about MOPS is that it is a place I can invite other moms. I have invited several neighbors - some have visited only once and others have become committed members. I love that it is a place for all moms - Christian or non-Christian, from Redeemer or not. It is a place to build relationships with other moms and therefore a place for the gospel to be shared. I have seen one of my friends grow a lot spiritually during the last couple years and this is partly due to her involvement at MOPS. She has benefited from the counselling services at Redeemer also as a result.
In MOPPETS this year Amy Heneisen has done such a good job putting together a curriculum for the kids. The kids are learning Bible stories and songs. Some of these kids come from non-Christian families - seeds are being planted in these families through what the kids are learning at MOPPETS. ~Renae Dorsey
