Officer Elections Coming this Fall
This fall, Redeemer members will be able to vote to elect candidates for the roles of elder, deacon and deaconess who were nominated in January and have been going through training ever since. These are important roles in the church, and we encourage all of our members to spend deliberate time in prayer about the election process.
What are these different roles?
Ruling Elders (see: I Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-7) are men who, by God’s grace, are called and ordained to direct the affairs of the church (leading and caring for the congregation). This includes shepherding; prayer; providing ministry leadership and oversight; and teaching. Deacons (see: I Timothy 3:8-13 and Acts 6:1-8) are men who, by God’s grace, are called and ordained to care for the needs of the church and community. This includes caring for the congregation; empowering our people to serve; doing works of mercy and justice; and encouraging biblical stewardship. Deaconnesses (see: I Timothy 3:8-13 esp. v. 11 and Titus 2:3-5) are women who, by God’s grace, are called and commissioned to shepherd and care for the congregation; empower our people to serve; do works of mercy and justice; and encourage biblical stewardship.
We will announce more details about the election including the date of the election as it draws closer, but for now, please be in prayer for the men and women who are considering these callings.
