Pastoral Transition Update - Time with Terry & Search Committee
Here’s an update on the good work that’s going on at RPC in this season of transition between Senior Pastors.
Our time with Terry Gyger has been fruitful and great. He has brought a fresh, wise perspective for us as a congregation during this time of transition. He's shared with us dozens of observations about who we are and who we can continue to become. Here are a couple of the sentiments he’s shared with us:
Take Your Time
Terry has encouraged us to embrace this time and not rush to get beyond it. This is a perfect opportunity to rest and discover anew where the Holy Spirit is leading us; how we can better reflect Jesus and his redemptive work in our hearts and in the city.
Simplify Your Vision
Redeemer has published its vision. It’s a big vision and rightfully so. Terry’s counsel is not necessarily to reduce our vision, but to simplify it, so that every member and attendee can know and share the distinctives of Redeemer in few words. We have taken this to heart and have been working on what simple language we believe characterizes how Redeemer Indy uniquely reflects Christ. The work to simplify our vision is reminding us who we are ... and is providing better focus for where we’ll continue to go. So far, these words are really resonating: "Beauty. Broken. Community."
Get Ready for the Next Senior Pastor
Taking our time and simplifying our vision … focusing on these two things have felt right. And there’s a beautiful consequence to this work: when it comes time to connect with candidates for our next Senior Pastor, we’ll be in great shape to communicate exactly who we are and what kind of leader we believe God uniquely has for us. We believe we’re preparing well to discern, speak to, and listen to our next Senior Pastor.
It has been a sweet time with Terry and we’re deeply thankful to receive his wisdom and experience during this season in the life of RPC.
Quick update on the search committee process: We’re continually thinking about when to begin; the timing is still not certain, but we’re looking to have a search committee formed and active by the end of January, 2016. We’ll be in touch often about this.
It’s been a season full of activity that’s been super healthy for us. God be praised. We’re thankful. And, as always, please connect with your parish elder, the deacon team or staff to share your thoughts, questions and convictions.
Christ loved us first,
Craig Burton, representing the session.
