Josie Aalsma
Worship Assistant
Josie is the Worship Assistant who helps lead and coordinate Sunday worship, leads and sings during our special services (Good Friday, Easter, and Christmas Eve), and writes original music for our church. Josie loves leading worship, singing, and being part of a community where we can sing and praise our Lord together each week! She also loves writing worship songs and lyrics, which can help lead others in worship. Josie is a graduate of Covenant College with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Worship Music, Business, and Sociology.
Music has been a part of Josie’s working career for years. She has worked with the Harrison Center, writing multiple songs about the neighborhood, led chapel at Covenant College for three years, and she currently works part-time at the Oaks Academy, leading chapel and working in the music department. Josie also spent two summers working at Redeemer with Worship Fellowship.
Having grown up in a loving and Christ-centered household in Fountain Square—with her parents Matt & Tina and her younger siblings, Norah and Merritt—Josie’s faith was shaped by the Christian community on her street. In this environment, she came to value leaning on Christ and others in times of grief and joy. The peace and confidence she gained from her community helped lead her to pursue her passion for music by leading worship at Fountain Square Pres when she was younger and eventually studying music at Covenant College.
Josie and her friends love going out to eat at new restaurants or at their favorite places like Bovaconti, Revolucion, or Julieta’s. You can also find her thrifting, going to concerts, having gatherings in her backyard with loved ones, or walking around FS with parents, friends, or neighbors.
The community, music ministry, and liturgical art ministry make Redeemer feel like home to Josie. She loves being welcomed every Sunday, singing praises with intentional words, lyrics, and beautiful music to our Savior, and making the service a comfortable place where people feel at home in the Lord's presence!
