Missions Month Special Offering
HOW YOU CAN SUPPORT GLOBAL MISSIONS
This year we want to raise $60,000 which will go to three areas.
$25,000 towards the construction of a boys shelter in Kenya to allow the ministry to serve higher-risk children who need 24/7 care.
$26,000 towards our Kenya mission trip June 13-23. Our team will help lead vacation Bible school for nearly 100 kids in grades 4-8.
$9,000 to help fund the ongoing work of Rdeemer’s Global Missions Team.
Boys shelter
Our partners, the Makukus, share that throughout their ministry, there are times when it is best for some of the children they serve to be moved to the shelter for 24/7 care. They shared the story of Patrick, one of the young boys who has been helped through this ministry.
Patrick is one of the boys at the shelter. We got to know him as a baby over 15 years ago when he was brought to a medical outreach at the church. His contorted body was shutting down because of extreme malnutrition. The medical team put him on an IV drip and transferred him to the hospital, where it took over three weeks for him to be able to eat food.
We learned Patrick was living with his stepmother and was becoming a burden. She joined our kitchen staff, and we asked her to bring Patrick so we could monitor his situation. Through our relationship with his stepmother, we learned that Patrick had twin 10-year-old sisters who were out begging for a living. We were able to reunite them and provide schooling.
It eventually became best for Patrick to transfer to the shelter, where he has continued to grow. He has excellent leadership abilities and is the school captain. He has a great musical voice, and we pray that God will use him greatly in His kingdom. He occasionally goes through rough patches where the past hits him hard. Anger is one of the major areas we must continually deal with in relation to him. He still has to distinguish between doing necessary chores as part of being at the shelter and punishment. We are grateful to the Lord for this season that Patrick is part of our life at the church and the shelter. Patrick is a true picture of how the grace of the Lord works in our lives.
An additional shelter would allow the ministry to care for more children. The remaining construction costs are estimated at $65,000. We want to raise $25,000 toward those costs.
Kenya Trip
We are excited to be sending ten people to Kenya from June 13-23, where they will help lead a vacation Bible school. We expect nearly 100 kids from grades 4-8 to attend. The Makukus are always appreciative when we can see their work firsthand and join them in ministry. We want to raise $26,000 toward the cost of the trip.
Ongoing Work of the GMT
The Redeemer elders provide funding from the general budget to support the GMT's work. If you give to Redeemer, you help support this ministry. However, the work the team is called to support is larger than what is received from the general budget. Every year, we rely on your direct giving to help fully fund our ministry. During Missions Month, we would like to raise an additional $9,000 toward the GMT's work.
How to Give
Please pray about how you can support the work of the church at Redeemer and around the world. There are multiple ways to give.
If giving by check, write “Missions” in the memo.
You can give online. (Be sure to, “Missions - Special Projects.”)
We will also have a special offering at the end of each service on Sunday, June 1st.
